How can I help my child at home?

  • Identify the letters of the alphabet (capital and lower case) out of order.
  • Say the sound of each letter of the alphabet (capital and lower case).
  • Identify and read priority words in text.
  • Read with your child!!!
  • Ask and answer questions about the book as you read.  Who are the characters?  Where does the story take place?  What did the characters do in the story?  What do you think will happen next?

  • Begin each sentence with a capital letter, followed by lower case letters.
  • Remind students to use a space between each word.
  • Hold your child responsible for correctly writing the priority words we have already introduced.
  • Encourage your child to stretch the sounds in an unknown word and write the sounds they hear. Students should be able to identify and write the beginning and end sound of each word.
  • Draw a picture to match the story.

  • Count by objects in your house. (shoes, cheerios, toys, etc.)
  • Identify and write numbers from 1-20.
  • Play math games that involve counting dice dots or game board spaces.
