Students are engaged in many academic groups throughout their school day.  We are currently working on the following:

Reading: Some students are working on reading a story and answering questions about the story.  Other students are working on breaking difficult words down and using their strategies while they read.  Please continue to read or listen to your child read every night at home.  Students will always have reading homework.

Writing:  Students work daily on their language and writing skills.  Different groups work on capitalization and punctuation, and some groups work on constructing quality sentences and even paragraphs.

Math: The math groups in my class vary in the material that is being covered.  I have some groups currently working on place value while others are mastering subtraction with borrowing and addition with regrouping, and multiplication.  As a class, we are always working on those life skills, like telling time (reading clocks), counting money(coins and bills), measurement, etc.  On most evenings, students will come home with some form of math homework.  This homework allows your student to practice what they have been working on class.

Spelling: Students are receiving weekly spelling list in their F.I.S.H binders each Monday.  They will have some sort of fun spelling activity for homework each evening.  We practice our spelling words each day in class.  The students love Spelling City.  It is a fun site that allows the students to practice their words in different ways.

Life Skills:  We work very hard on a daily basis covering basic life skills including community skills and social skills.
