Hello Third Grade Students and Pa

Welcome parents and third graders! I am extremely excited to kick off this year! My name is Danielle Dueck. This is my tenth year teaching at Mowrey. I have taught third grade all ten years! I absolutely love teaching third grade! I have one daughter named Scarlett. She is in second grade this year. I have a dog named Jasper, he is a Jack Russel. My hometown is Greencastle and I currently still live there. This spring I got married and am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my life. Some things I enjoy doing are reading, shopping, riding horses, playing sports, boating and jet skiing, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to building relationships with all of my third grade students!

Third grade is a big year. I consider 3rd grade to be a transition grade, where you leave primary and prepare to enter the intermediate grades. Not only are there many new programs and curriculum that will be introduced to each third grader but there will also be a higher set of expectations for the students. I am here to help your child succeed every step of the way!

Homework will be Monday through Thursday
1. AR 20 min.
2. Math homelink
3. Math facts
4. Study spelling words

We will also be preparing for the PSSA's which take place in April. I ask that all parents help their child succeed by being a part of their school life. Please be sure to check planners and homework every night. A program we use to help prepare students for the test is called Study Island. Your child will receive a lot of information regarding this program and how to use it at home. I encourage all students to use Study Island at home to help prepare them for the PSSA test!

Another big change from second to third is using the program Accelerated Reader. This is a program that will help build your child's reading comprehension. Your child will be required to read 20 minutes a night for homework Monday through Thursday. Then your child will be required to complete comprehension tests on the books they have read. AR will be 10% of your child's ELA grade. Please make sure your child is reading every night and that they are prepared to complete the test on the book.

Get Excited!!

Some things your child can look forward to this year are learning and implementing Accelerated Reader, multiplication, and cursive writing! Our field trips this year are Renfrew Park; where we learn about trees, and our end of the year field trip to the Baltimore Aquarium. :) I am pumped to meet all of you and to get to know you this year. I look forward to the relationships I will create with each student and all of you parents! Bring on the new school year and watch us learn!
