Hello Third Grade Students and Parents!

Third grade is an important year in your child's education.  It is the transition year from the primary grades (K-2) into the intermediate grades (4-6).  One of our goals this year is to increase student responsibility.  We will work throughout the year on how to be more responsible for our learning and growth.

A.R. (Accelerated Reader)
*Students will be given a range of books to choose from on their individual reading level.
*Students will be given a goal of points to earn for the marking period.
*Students are expected to read 20 minutes per night.
*Once a book is completed, students will take a comprehension test about that book.
*Students will earn points towards their goal based on the number of questions answered correctly.
*A.R. comprises of 10% of a student's reading grade.

PSSAs
We will prepare for this important statewide test all year.  One of the best ways to prepare for this is a program called Study Island.  Look for information on this program to come later in the fall.  The PSSAs for 2017-2018 school year will be in April.

Math
We use the Everyday Math program in Math. This is a spiral based program, which means that we will touch on a math topic (such as money) and then come back to it later. Your child will bring home a Homelink every night but Friday. These Homelinks should be a review of the skills that we are learning at school. If at any time your child is confused with the Homelinks, please send me a note so that we can address it.

Scholastic Books are a great way to build your child's library at home. Feel free to order online using the code: https://orders.scholastic.com/J6W9C

We will be using Remind101 this year to send out reminder messages. This is a quick and easy way to stay connected to what we are doing in the classroom. To sign up click here:
